Thanks to Google Street Viewthe streets of Moncton can now be seen around the world
The Google Street View camera drove around the city several months ago, taking pictures.
Paul Thompson from the city of Moncton says it's a tool that can show people around the world what the city looks and feels like.
"This is a tool that can show them exactly what the city looks and feels like, and what a certain street looks and feels like, and what's there and not there. Any kind of that information is valuable, whether it's a visitor or an investor looking to see the city."

- To view street-level imagery for a specific location, click and drag Street View button to the location you want. Roads with available street-level imagery appear with a blue border.(A thumbnail image shows you a preview of the location your cursor is over.)
- Navigate to the location you want. Zoom in all the way. If street-level imagery is available, it appears when you zoom in all the way.
- A street-level view appears for this location with an overview map in the bottom right corner of the view.
- You can rotate the view, zoom in or zoom out and send or save a specific loction!

Haiti needs your help On January 12, 2010, a 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck off the western coast of Haiti. Buildings all over the Haitian capital of Port au Prince collapsed, killing thousands and trapping thousands more. It’s estimated that three million people have been affected by the disaster, and 200,000 have been left homeless. Chaos has descended in the city, as survivors desperately search for food, water and shelter amid the rubble.
Our response was immediate, thanks to hundreds of local volunteers with the Haitian Red Cross—many of whom lost loved ones. Since the earthquake struck, more than 400 International Red Cross workers have hit the ground in Haiti (including 12 trained emergency response workers), along with 70 tons of food, water and medical supplies. More aid is arriving every day. The Canadian Red Cross is mobilizing to support relief efforts in Haiti—providing medical support, clean water, food and shelter to people who have lost everything. We also need to look beyond immediate relief, to the Haitian people’s longer-term needs as they recover from this enormous tragedy and begin to rebuild their communities. Aside from the human toll—which continues to climb—this earthquake has robbed hundreds of thousands of people of their homes and livelihoods, in a country that is already the poorest in the western hemisphere.  Blankets For Moncton Deadline is now Extended until January 18th, 2010 at 5:00pm
Due to a much higher demand for clothing and furniture this year,
Blankets for Moncton is extending the drop-off date for donations right
up until January 18th, 2010 at 5:00pm.
The blanket drive is an extensive and all encompassing event that
reaches all levels of the poverty existing in Moncton at the service
level by connecting all of the area non-profits and charities that deal
with at-risk citizens with the material goods and resources that they
need to make their clients comfortable during the cold season.
For the third annual Blanket Drive for Metro Moncton Homeless, we
are collecting clean blankets, pillows, sleeping bags, winter coats,
winter boots, socks, toques, hats, scarves, gloves, warm clothes, steel
toed boots and shoes (men's and ladies), work gloves, backpacks, duffel
bags, suitcases, curtains, toiletries, (especially hotel sized soap and
shampoo bottles, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, razors, shaving
cream, etc.), sandwich bags and baggies, diapers, formula, feminine
products, bus tickets, canned milk, food vouchers (Sobeys gift cards),
coffee coupons, laundry tokens etc. Anything clean and useful is
greatly appreciated.
Anyone wishing to donate large items, such as furniture, please call Nadine at 961-0963 for more information.

Operation Red Nose is a unique program dedicated against drinking and driving.
Essentially, it is a volunteer driving service provided during the Christmas Holiday Season to all drivers who have been drinking or who do not feel fit to drive their own vehicle back home. It is an original and free way of getting a safe ride in our own vehicle without driving it!
In its 25 years in Canada, Operation Red Nose has seen 787,940 volunteers provide 1.5 million rides.
Almost 2,000 volunteers provided 2,768 rides to New Brunswick partygoers last year.
Operation Red Nose will be offering a free designated driver service to the Greater Moncton population during the holiday season and will be in service :
Friday and Saturday nights starting Friday, November 27th, from 9pm to 2:30am.
A team of 3 Red Nose volunteers will pick you up and drive you in your own vehicle to the destination of your choice for free.

The Moncton Hospital is reminding the general public that if you
feel as though you are developing influenza-like symptoms such as
fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, fatigue, vomiting, or diarrhea
you are advised to stay home and minimize contact with family members
as much as possible. If symptoms worsen, call and speak to your health-care provider or call 1-800-580-0038. If
you are in one of the risk groups -- pregnant women, people with
underlying medical conditions such as diabetes, or those with
compromised immune systems-- or if you feel sick enough that you would
normally see a doctor, you should seek medical attention at an
after-hours clinic, your family doctor's office, or at a walk-in or
university clinic. To ensure that emergency departments can
properly manage and treat patients that require urgent medical
attention, please seek care at an emergency department ONLY if your
symptoms suddenly get worse, you experience shortness of breath, chest
pain, altered level of consciousness or if you have prolonged high
fever that cannot be controlled with usual medication. People can
minimize the risk of being infected by washing their hands, coughing or
sneezing into sleeves, staying home when sick, and keeping common

One Hundred Day Countdown to Gate Opening Begins |

Petitcodiac Riverkeeper marked the 100 day countdown to the opening of the Petitcodiac causeway yesterday, the 10th and final activity of the organization's year long 10th Anniversary celebrations. This countdown is just an approximation.
The Province of New Brunswick plans to open the causeway gates in late March but the precise date hasn't been set.
However, the Riverkeeper organization wanted to conclude its anniversary year with a focus on 2010 and the celebrations to follow.
“As part of our final activity, we are pleased to announce the formation of a 2010 Celebration Committee, with representatives from all areas of our watershed,” said Riverkeeper Tim Van Hinte. “Its role will be to consult and propose events in 2010 to mark the historic opening of the gates of the Petitcodiac and the beginning of the largest restoration project to take place in Canada. On behalf of our organization, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to these volunteers for agreeing to take part in the 2010 Celebration Committee,” he added.
Members of the 2010 Celebration Committee are: Marc Chouinard (Beaumont), Kim Rayworth-Landry (Moncton), Lee Saunders (Petitcodiac), Jean J. Gaudet (Dieppe), Bryant Freeman (Riverview), Patricia Léger (Memramcook), Tim Isaac (Shepody) and Daniel LeBlanc (former Riverkeeper). Plans are in the works to organize an official event, indoors, on the day of the opening of the gates (late March) as well as an outdoor event scheduled for June of 2010. These activities will be announced by the Committee in 2010.
